Frolic Information

About

The Frolics are intimate revels with one fantastic band and an outstanding caller. The mini-weekend consists of 9 hours of contra dancing over two days, with wonderful dancers in a beautiful setting.  Winter Frolic 2019 is at a new location, St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church Community Center, 2716 N Dobson Rd, Chandler, AZ 85224. You'll find easy access with plenty of parking. The hall features a large wooden floor, a great stage, tables and chairs for sitting inside the hall, and covered areas outside for relaxing with friends between dances. The floor has some give, but is not sprung; shoes with some cushioning are recommended. You'll meet a vibrant mix of local and visiting dancers.

Schedule

The Frolics go from 8:00 - 11:00 pm on Friday evening and again from 1:00 - 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon, and 7:30–10:30 pm on Saturday evening. You'll have plenty of time to fully experience the exceptional talent, meet with friends, brunch, or explore on Saturday, and sight-see or travel back home on Sunday if you come from out of town. There will be an extra-long break during the dance on Saturday afternoon for a group photo. If you wish, you may come in your zaniest or finest dance duds for the picture.

Lodging

We are working on discounts for hotel rooms and we'll have a list of nearby hotels on the website. Some housing with local dancers may be available. If you are a local dancer and are willing to host an out-of-town dancer or two, please let us know! Email housing@phxtmd.org if you need a host or are willing to host.

Transportation

Visit the Phoenix Valley Metro website for more detailed information about bus options. From Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, SuperShuttle is an inexpensive alternative to taxis for reaching your lodging destination. The dance hall is conveniently located just off the Highway 101 loop, between Elliot and Warner Roads. We encourage dancers to post ride-sharing requests and offers on our FaceBook page: Contra Dance Phoenix.

Food

Healthy snacks will be provided at each dance. There will be a long-break on Saturday afternoon with extra tasty treats. The dance is a short drive from many amazing restaurants in Tempe, Chandler and Mesa. A list of nearby restaurant options will be posted on the Frolic website. You will find plenty of variety for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike. Winter is the time for food in Phoenix!
