The Frolics are intimate revels with one fantastic band and an outstanding caller. The mini-weekend consists of 9 hours of contra dancing over two days, with wonderful dancers in a beautiful setting. You'll have plenty of time to fully experience the exceptional talent, meet with friends on Saturday and get back home on Sunday if you come from out of town. You'll meet a vibrant mix of inter-generational local and visiting dancers.
The Frolics go from 8:00 - 11:00 pm on Friday evening and again from 1:00 - 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon, and 7:30–10:30 pm on Saturday evening. Winter Frolic 2019 will be at a new location, St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church Community Center, 2716 N Dobson Rd, Chandler, AZ 85224. The hall features a large wooden floor, a great stage, room for tables and chairs inside the hall, and covered areas outside for relaxing with friends between dances. The floor is not sprung; shoes with some cushioning are recommended.
We are working on discounts for hotel rooms and will have a list of nearby hotels before registration opens. Some housing with local dancers may be available. If you are a local dancer and are willing to host an out-of-town dancer or two, please let us know! Email email@example.com if you need a host or are willing to host.
Visit the Phoenix Valley Metro website for more detailed information about bus options. For those of you arriving at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, SuperShuttle is an inexpensive alternative to taxis to reach your lodging destination. We encourage dancers to post ride-sharing requests and possibilities on our FaceBook page: Contra Dance Phoenix.
Healthy snacks will be provided at each dance. There will be a long-break on Saturday afternoon with many extra taste treats. The dance is a short drive from many amazing restaurants in Tempe, Chandler and Mesa. We will post a list of nearby restaurant options before registration opens. Rest assured, there will be plenty of variety for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike. Winter is the time for food in Phoenix!
